Held on 3 December 2009 in Bucharest, Romania in partnership with AstonEco Management and the Centre for Corporate Citizenship Romania, the AA1000SES consultation workshop saw attendance from 40+ participants representing a range of industries.

The first session of the consultation workshop sought to address current practice and to understand how stakeholder engagement can contribute to accountability for sustainable development. The second session of the workshop looked at the revision process, with the aim of identifying and debating the issues participants would like to see addressed during the revision process.

When asked what the scope of the new AA1000SES should cover, the recommendations from the participants were that it should:

  • create clatiy of organisational purpose
  • be a process for organisational awareness of stakeholders and their concerns
  • include project management with stakeholders as a core component
  • clarify and communicate the meaning of sustainable development as seen from stakeholders’ perspectives
  • provide a minimum sustainability audit
